Urahara Sanin – Kapital Code of Kiro Hirata, Make do and keep moving

We go again,

I remember giving into the hype and not knowing exactly anything about Kapital but the jeans/trousers as featured would see in my How I like My Denim in 2019. Ksubi, Undercover, Kapital, Evisu that was what I understood about Japanese style superb; when I ended up developing my repertoire of Understanding I saw that these fashion labels the denim was – namely Kapital and Undercover were more than Japanese denim houses; they had a code of creation.

Of the Three Sanin Kiro is the most unsung of the trio and it made more sense what I understood about him he made it that way almost.

A short bio on Kiro

The traveller in the wind that explores creates and moves on Kiro along with his team create clothing for those that live by this credo, the gypsy style of design.

When you Understand Kiro you understand Kapital, there not much out there on Kapital in English so allow me to fill in some of the gaps. Before streetwear became the most continental there is a style that still thrives in the fabric of Japan that of the American Native, those that will use patters and patchwork, layered style in the summer and winter the codes of the style call for volume layers rustic views a salt of the earth character that lives by that ideal.

This ideal curated by Kiro became Kapital as you know it today, the iconic Ring Coat, 45rpm Collection, Boro Jeans all come with these codes. Kapital keeps that feeling of The American Native style alive for the past 20+ years it’s alive and thriving. Putting Kiro as part of the Sanin the traveller team of Kiro Nicole and Eric put together that story through imagery and clothes.

#SneakerSunday May – Alyx Nike FreeRUN with vibram Cramp Sole

We go again,

Matthew williams edges mays best sneaker with the free run images just days before the month ends. It was probably going to go to a free run anyway but this is a speedsock free run with rugged detachable sole that doubles as a basketball sneaker. I am yet to see how weatherproof this rugged second sole is so we can’t call it Techwear but it’s my favourite thing to look at right now.

Matthew Williams pulled something off I don’t think anyone has wrote about. He made Nike and another name brand collab all on his own, we should all know Nike puts out exclusivity contracts for anyone working with them meaning they can’t work with a competing brand but maybe Matthew has found a way to get Alyx to work with Nike.

I have a Vibram blog coming up but they have been getting busy with other industrial sneaker designers and Matthew is one of their main ambassadors with pretty much all his sneakers donning a Vibram second sole. This second sole is rugged chunky and looks almost weatherproof but I like to call these Second Soles City Clip-ons meaning they’re built for inner city walking only and don’t be so certain water won’t fall in the cracks of the innersole of the second sole. Kind of confusing but you get the picture.

The running sneaker or speed sock does not have the Frampton Ellis Barefoot Tech probably to make it easier to clip on to the sole but it is a high top that is slip on with an inner sole zip and shoelaces as a facade or to tighten. Some rugged toe grip and same reinforcement on the heel – and if I know anything about the way the free run is designed that sole is very flat and sticky probably enough for court use.

The detailing on this crep is impressive I love it, just looks sleek and calm to wear on its own with such a simple silhouette as the freeRUN one, it’s Details make it look very technical and methodical all the fabrics and plastics used seem to be for a purpose and and to the fine details and texture of the boot. Which is really reinforced when you add the Vibram sole which I really want a close look at the mould’s details To see what it really does. The mould really adds to the silhouette a different energy you almost look at the boot as an all in one till you take it off and see the speedsock on it’s own

At this point Vibram is really pulling it in the eyes of Techwear crep aficionados like myself thanks to Matthew it is looking nice to me, Nike made a good move not being too precious with the new sneaker silhouettes and allowing the artist to really manipulate them to create a whole different unique style.

This Crep really speaks to Matthews philosophy and to the industrial sneaker trend now style that sleek & simple go with rugged and detailed.

Editors Note

At this point I really just want to jump in and add to this industrial Sneaker style put my name in the hat and make it certified I’ve really got some things cooking but all in due time. I just love what my peers are doing and moving in a direction I like.

This is the way I like to see menswear done being a real style of its own

NYT Style: SUMMER HAT SEASON Top hats you might want for summer

We go again,

Hola as I was having a conversation about headwear I noticed I didn’t have one for summer I surely had one for winter hats & as I just looked in my archive March 14 I had a draft I never released. Here’s what it said,

I feel like babushkas and Balaclavas will be a big deal for men. And in one form or the other animal print; if you’re familiar with my latest in Sweeping Trends animal prints and polka dot you see I have that covered, after all the years of making fun of uncles for the pattern shirts we’re also at that point. Now it’s for the hats of the season.

Balaclavas

Balaclavas have been a big deal and will surely be a big deal the same way football tops are a big deal I know I have my own balaclava that I wear commonly as a hat and I finesse it well. It’s such a cool look and many people in the raver culture seem to agree.

People want to seem more rugged and more “threatening” and a balaclava adds that mystique for me i style my balaclava with my chest rig as it’s a big piece of equipment my balaclava balances it out.

If we can get balaclavas in different colours with patterns on them balaclavas will surely become a more open sweeping trend

Babushkas

Yes you read that right babushkas. Headwraps for your headtop if you’re fashion forward or think you can pull off the next frontier babushkas are the level we’re taking it. Rocky wore one to cover his scar and it was cute but to me I just like head wraps.

If it’s not a Fez it’s a babushka because babushkas absorb sweat like caps but don’t totally cover your head like a balaclava and it’s a great in between for headbands and balaclavas. Having a high fashion one that is made from silk is probably the way to go. Say what you will, styled with a kimono shirt or collarless button up with great patterns will have you looking sweet

Berets

Berets are here to stay I commented on them in winter and assessed the summer landscape and berets are really a look. I love my felt berets simply because it has no seams making it more durable and it stays in place. I am able to style it however I want and not feel out of place I currently have only one but that number will surely multiply.

You can wear berets any how, with tees, with jackets an overcoat, denim depending on the beret fabric and a suit also. It’s becoming versatile and commonplace to wear it however you want. It’s not just for snooty art students or people who want to look foreign.

Baseball hats

All year round I will go to bat for baseball hats or “dad hats” people tried to make trucker hats a thing but I wouldn’t let them baseball hats are the in thing regardless of season. We can really wear it however and I feel berets will be able to be worn just like baseball hats. We can wear them however we want and look fresh and feel comfortable in whatever we’re wearing, that’s how classic the item is to us and will continue to be.

Bucket Hats

As a wild card for those that aren’t skaters and want to be styling for the whole of summer who think they can pull it off no questions asked a Bucket Hat (one I don’t own yet). I don’t see it as a sweeping trend but something people will be doing, if you can find a unique one with a colourful print or even keep it monochrome, a bucket hat styled the right way will be geechi a bucket hat on the right person will cause a sauce wave. Take it from me if it can be imagined it can be done

this sure depends on…
