Urahara Sanin: Nigo — King of the Hypebeasts

We go again

Enter Nigo

Nigo is such a massive superstar in the ‘streetwear’ space he has to be mentioned amongst the greats when it comes to Harajuku. Many speak of Nigo as the main Head of the iconic Nowhere Store, when Jun was right there.

Before Nigo was King of the Hypebeasts he was enamoured by screen printing camo and comfortable clothing that would be adopted by the most prominent culture Hip Hop.

Nigo and Hip Hop

Pharrell would link arms with Nigo after their jeweller in common Jacob would link them like a Cuban and they would share ideas and thoughts and Bathing Ape in Lukewarm Water would be part of the zeitgeist. we would get the most iconic Wayne picture above. Bape would even being the stem of a feud between Clipse and Cash Money of who really bought it to America first. The answer being Pharrell. Who said it in a song first? We don’t know. It just keeps producing great music.

Bathing Ape would Don Nike iconic Air Force 1 canvas never being sued either so Bape bad iteration after iteration better than anything Nike bought out at the time concerning the Air Force 1 Mould making Bathing Ape Bapesta part of the most iconic sneakers of all time having Kanye West Bapestas goon for upwards of $3000.

After Bape

Nigo would sell Bape to one of Japan’s biggest fashion conglomerates I.T and move on to Human Made and Billionaires Boys Club along with Pharrell. Now running his own music Label Toy’s Factory.

Spring of the Rookie – Yoon of Ambush

We Go Again,IMG_4813 2

The lady of the season, Yoon hailing from Seattle making waves for Verbal and herself with working for Dior and Nike using the Ambush name and stamping herself as a woman of adornments.

In winning the Bvlgari Avrora inspiring woman award there’s something to think of when thinking about Yoon.IMG_4823

Not just a stunning designer but an innovative mind bringing a partly Japanese aesthetic with an American mentality to business she’s really astounding.

Knowing her from The 3/11 Japanese Tsunami short with Pharrell, I thought they were quite comfortable, fresh and assured of themselves. They started right and steadily with steadily they grew their brand sustainably along side their music in this fusion of culture creativity and total Japanese essence.

Some people take for granted the Japanese as just an anime nation but when you delve deeper it is resilient and powerful that’s what they embody with their glossy neon cloths and outlook for them, with Ambush, they created something they can be more than proud of.

The Dior appointment as head jewellery maker had me for a loop, the well made mechanic art for pre fall had people talking and those accents were hard to stand out on a well made collection of desirable clothes but she matched the intensity with stand out rings and knuckle dusters the collection was well rounded in my opinion

Now the Nike collection as well as their own sneaker made for the people. And the most desirable *jade fur coat (at least I call it jade). The tech pack capsule looks Chique and feminine

Editors Note

I like her because she’s bought something to the table everywhere she’s gone. Heavily merchandisable and creative, it’s hard to be mad at what she’s done for where she’s gone to.

From head of men’s Jewellery at Dior to having 2 trainers with Nike in their 180 silhouette

I’m really excited to see what she does together with verbal and the exploits of the Ambush brand

Pharrell Empathy Crazy BYW – my intro into the inventor of Barefoot tech (Frampton Ellis)

We Go Again,

I have been so sleep on these sneakers since the beginning so I feel the need a blog. The colourway reminds me of something I made in school, or would make in school. Which is something you could expect from a Pharrell sneaker.

He has this ability to make child like sneakers for grown people and have them accept them, it’s a quality I’ve liked in his sneakers and design eye. Dunno how that was lost on G-Star but we move. The reason I really write this blog is because of the sole. Literally the sole was so colourful I was looking at the breakages in the trainer thinking ‘there’s a jig here’ and sure enough I looked it up and discovered the king himself Frampton Ellis, the Goat and creator of barefoot technology. Soles are very important to me, all my research and understanding comes from ergonomics which is what bought me to love sneakers as a designer how the foot is wrapped and treated inside a trainer is indicative of how comfortable this trainer is going to be so I make it my business to confirm comfort first from a pure design perspective then take in style. img_1537

Find the Utility and sell substance, part of my design thinking methodology, which is majority of the time incorporated into sneaker technology.

The real reason I write about this, when I find out something new I get super excited and have to tell someone. I’ve obviously don’t have enough people to tell so I write this blog 😂. img_1543

Banter aside – I love this trainer purely for the technology and will buy it just off the strength of Frampton and Barefoot technology.

Nothing I love more than finding out something new and bringing me closer to a full understanding of what Sneakers are and to bring out the foundational assets while still making them Art. I am for sure happy about these
